We are delighted to be offering a special treat with our newest cruise which will give you an up-close Finger Lakes experience including boating, hiking and paddling options!
Our “Lake & Land Tour to Taughannock Falls,” is a four-hour trip beginning with a narrated boat ride to Taughannock Falls State Park where our spacious and comfortable boat, the MV Teal, will dock. You will then have the option to take a 2-mile hike to Taughannock Falls with a Park Interpreter or to rent paddle-boards or kayaks (at an additional cost). Guests can also choose to explore the Park at their leisure. with its swimming area and playground.
Park Interpreters will give you lots of interesting information that you wouldn’t know about if you walked the trail the Falls on your own!
Taughannock Falls is the largest free-falling waterfall east of the Mississippi River, plunging 215 feet past beautiful rocky cliffs. The experience of staring up at the falls makes you feel minuscule compared to the 400-foot gorge through layers of ancient shale, limestone and sandstone. The park has made it very accessible to walk a flat one-mile hike following the Taughannock Creek while admiring the shale rock formations in the gorge walls and creek beds iconic to the region. Park Interpreters will tell you about the interesting geology and natural history of the area along the way.
Guests choosing the paddling option can opt for a paddle-board or a single or tandem kayak from Finger Lakes paddle-sports experts, Paddle-N-More. You will receive paddling instructions, then paddle around the beautiful west shore of Cayuga Lake, enjoying the experience of being close to the water’s edge. Children ages 11-16 may have their own paddle craft. Those 10 and under, must share a tandem kayak with a parent.
Taughannock Falls State Park is the most visited of all of the region’s State Parks due to the beauty of it’s waterfall which changes drastically depending on the season. In this photo the waterfall is running a bit low due to the dry weather we’ve been having!
Once you’ve had your fun in the park, you’ll re-board the Teal for the cruise back to the Treman Marina. While on board, you’ll have the option to eat a pre-ordered lunch (or you can bring your own), to enjoy more of the narration offered by our crew and to peer into the life of the lake through our microscopes. Children and adults alike will be relaxed, happy and engaged!
This one-of-a-kind Finger Lakes opportunity will take place every Thursday, from 10-2pm until August 11th. When signing up, you can choose which activity you’d like to participate in. Lunch orders will be taken once on board and are limited to turkey and ham wraps, vegetable burgers, potato chips, sodas and seltzers.
