Experiential learning

Educational Programs

Education is what we do! Discover Cayuga Lake is invested in environmental literacy, not only as part of a good education, but as a key to long term social justice and sustainability. We offer interpretive programming for adults and support several lake monitoring programs, but our primary focus is youth education. Our Trout in the Classroom and Floating Classroom Programs take place year-round, in classrooms, at streams, and aboard our boat. We reach 1000’s of young minds and hearts every year.

Donations to our Cayuga Lake Community Fund, along with ecotourism revenue, ensure these programs are affordable for everyone.

If you are an educator interested in participating, scroll down, explore the relevant links, and don’t hesitate to contact us with questions.

My family has taken a few educational tours and are absolutely in awe with what you do. So engaging, informative and well organized! We’re huge fans!

Floating Classroom

Each year, 2500 students explore the ecology and human history of Cayuga Lake aboard Teal.

    Trout in the Classroom

Students in a network of 20 schools are raising and releasing trout, and getting to know their local streams

We offer internship opportunities for young people interested in science, interpretation and tourism.

ARe you visiting the area and interested in our educational programs?

        Consider an Eco-CRUISE

If you are a visitor to our area you can also participate in some of our Floating Classroom Activities by joining us for an Eco-Cruise! During these cruises, we share the water monitoring and plankton observation equipment we have on board and teach guests not only what we do but how to do it themselves. These are fun activities for young and old alike!

We’d Love to hear from you!
