Opportunities for Community Members to join and support us
As a community-supported not-for-profit, Discover Cayuga Lake offers periodic opportunities for community members to emjoy time on the lake and get to know our organization, with the hope of creating more awareness about our precious water resources and garnering support for our work. Your presence will support our work in Finger Lakes schools and on the water, and our mission “to cultivate informed and equitable relationships with people and the watersheds upon which we depend”. We hope you can join us and look forward to meeting you!
It was a beautiful and peaceful evening and the cruise was so interesting and informative. We were like tourists in our own town, choosing this experience to enjoy my 30th anniversary!

The Journey of Water
Sunday, June 14, 2026 (2:00 PM – 5:00 PM) and
Wednesday, July 29, 2026 (9:00 – 12:00 PM)
For the 19th consecutive year, Discover Cayuga Lake is partnering with Community Science Institute to offer two FREE Water Quality Monitoring Cruises as part of their Journey of Water youth education series.
During this 3-hour hands-on program, participants will collect and analyze water samples using professional-grade field equipment while learning about water quality monitoring techniques used by scientists. Participants will also collect plankton samples with a plankton net and examine them under microscopes to observe and identify microscopic aquatic organisms.
These programs are designed primarily for children ages 5–12, though older children are welcome. All children must be accompanied by a caregiver at all times.

The 2026 Journey of Water youth education series is made possible through the generous support of the Park Foundation.
